Inauguration of renovated Philately Bureau and Philately Museum at Patna GPO by Chief Postmaster General of Bihar Shri Anil Kumar

Patna, 24 December 2024: A special and glorious event was organized today at Patna GPO, where Hon’ble Chief Postmaster General, Shri Anil Kumar Ji inaugurated the renovated Philately Bureau and Museum. The auspicious occasion was graced by the presence of philatelists, senior officials of the Department of Posts, and dignitaries. The main objective of setting up the Philately Bureau and Museum is to showcase and disseminate the glorious and rich history, culture and heritage of India to the general public through the medium of postage stamps.

This unique museum presents an amazing collection of postage stamps from different periods, which depict the legacy of India’s art, culture, freedom struggle, and development journey.
This museum is a kind of time travel where visitors can get a glimpse of India’s past through postage stamps. The stamps displayed here tell us how our country has changed over time, how we achieved our independence, and how we have progressed in various fields. This museum will be an important centre not only for philatelists but also for all those interested in history, art and culture with educational panorama.


This initiative will definitely promote philately and play a vital role in connecting the younger generation with the rich heritage of the country. During the inaugural ceremony, Shri Anil Kumar Ji in his address said that postage stamps are not just a part of the postal system but they are living documents of the history and culture of our nation which inspire us to be proud of our heritage. He said that these stamps remind us of our country’s past and inspire us for the future.


Mr. Kumar further said that philately is not just a hobby but it is a vast ocean of knowledge and information which makes us aware of different cultures, historical events and scientific achievements. He said that philately gives us an opportunity to learn about countries around the world, their people, customs and traditions. It is a hobby which makes us more aware and sensitive towards the world.


On this occasion, he also made several important announcements to promote philately and connect the younger generation to it. He said that soon philately clubs will be established in schools and colleges to make the youth aware of philately. Through these clubs, students will be given information about postage stamps, they will be encouraged to collect stamps, and they will be given the opportunity to participate in various activities related to philately.


Sri Kumar also informed that to promote philately, the Postal Department will organize exhibitions, workshops and competitions from time to time. Through these events, people will get a chance to display their collections, learn about new stamps, and interact with experts.

This will increase people’s interest in philately and this hobby will become even more popular. Undoubtedly, this initiative of the Postal Department will make the common people aware of the past of India and the world through the colourful world of stamps.
